Blue girl & watery daydreams

You've already seen this charity shop dress, but I haven't shown you this jacket for a long time - an Escada denim jacket with distressed puffs - that I picked up for TWO DOLLARS at the $2 Clothing Sale in Toronto. I just love wearing dresses with cropped denim jackets, and I've been seeing the look on some of your blogs. It's so easy-breezy simple. Nowhere is that easy-breeziness more applicable than where I live now in France, land of the clear, clean lake, mountains and blue blue skies. Which may explain why I am wearing a lot of blue these days. The marine look is all over Monoprix, the department store you see over my shoulder: white capris, striped tops and marine blue cable-knit sweaters.

This water is so inspirational. I'm used to the dingy, opaque canal in Ottawa, Canada. The canal here, which feeds into the lake, is wonderfully clear. They say Lac Annecy is the cleanest lake in all of Europe. No murky, mysterious depths to worry over!

I'm still trying to find out what I'm going to do here work-wise and to keep me busy, when I'm not exploring with hubby - but, with scenery such as this, I'm going to try not to worry about it. I haven't worked in 8 months, and I'm surprisingly not freaked out. Leaving the hustle bustle has been good for my soul, methinks.

Maybe I'll take up photography and produce semi-artsy shots like this one? I loved this boat along the canal - I thought it was very Grunge Queen, with the leaking water, old umbrella and tire, and semi-mangy flowers. It's the kind of boat I'd feel right at home in!

I've been dreaming about tip-toeing out in the wee hours and sliding into this calm, pool-like subsidiary of the canal. I love how it just seems to stop at the edge of the running waters of the canal, and how the trees drip over it and make it even more private. I found it on a quiet pathway along the canal, and I almost slipped into it with my dress on as there was no one around. Maybe I would have transformed into a water nymph and lived there forever!

  2. Oh I think you must get in that cool clear water!
Your photos are gorgeous, isn't that lake beautiful? I'm not surprised you are feeling inspired and chilled and happy. And you really look it too.
Love the print on your dress, but picture of the boat is my favourite! xxxx

    1. I wonder if they'd arrest me if I did? I doubt it. If the women go topless on the beaches and I see boys diving off bridges into the canal, I can indulge my sea nymph fantasy! Or I could be naughty and go and sit in the boat .... xoxo

  3. The print on your dress is so pretty! I like that boat shot, too. It's the kind of boat I'd also feel at home in. I was on a yacht for a day once and felt completely uncomfortable the whole time!

    1. I'm with you, vivienne: I don't feel comfortable in new shiny things. This is a boat for a thrift blogger, for sure! :)

  5. That is a great artsy photo of the boat. I want to see more! I can't tell you how fun it is spying on your life in France. Fascinating! I want to travel the world but I hate to fly so I let that defeat my desires.
A lovely shot of you at the fountain in blue. Looks like it's your kind of environment! Maybe you could be a tour guide and set up a retreat for your blogger friends. Now, I would buy a plane ticket for an experience like that!

    1. Joni, I hated flying - until I married a pilot, LOL. He's helped me to demystify a lot of the agonies I had around flying. Not that it's my fave thing, far from it!

Teehee, I could set up a blogger retreat - you would all be most welcome!! In actuality our living room is booked for some time as we have all kinds of fam & friends visiting us, now that we live in such a great place! But there are opportunities here for tourism - I just need to come up with a killer idea (have thought about a vintage shop, but it would def be for the tourists: the French aren't into that kind of thing).

  7. The aquatic-inspired outfit looks gorgeous on you! That lovely clear water would be tempting me as well. We all need a mental and physical break from the stresses of the working world, so if you can still keep a roof over your head and eat, then cherish the time (and know there are a lot of us who are very jealous!)

  8. You seem to be very happy over there in Annecy!
    It is a beautiful place!
Did ever tell how you met your husband?
Can you tell why you ended up in France?
How are the french with you guys?
What do they say when you tell them you are Canadian?

    1. Ahh, Ariane, it was all very romantic - I met him when he was on lay-over in Florida (he's a pilot), when I was there for my best friend's wedding. We spent a romantic evening together our very first time meeting, walking on the beach, talking, etc! (here's the link to the post I wrote just before going on that holiday - I'm wearing the dress I met him in! http://grunge-queen.blogspot.fr/2010/06/pucci-esque-silk-dress-thrifted-to-go.html). A long-distance relationship followed as he's from the UK, then, a year-and-a-half later, marriage! We're in Annecy because of his work. The French seem to like Canadians and be fascinated by them. Many switch to English when they see I'm struggling with the language, though I wish they wouldn't be so helpful as I want to improve my French so I can banter with the locals!

  9. I'll be waiting for the water nymph photo! I wonder if there is any demand for English teachers in your area...just an idea.

  11. Love following your blog.......I also want to tell you that I am so impressed and amazed at how you adapt to moving to not one, but two countries. I emigrated to Canada from Scotland when I was a teenager and I was miserable, until I went back to Britain 4 years later for a holiday, and realized how lucky (for me) I was to have become a Canadian. I went back twice to try and live in London (which I love) in the seventies, but always came back to Toronto, where I still am.

To me, taking such huge, life-altering steps, dare I say it, when you are no longer a teenager (I am much older than you), is very brave and I am so glad that you are enjoying your transitioning life... of course, obviously love plays an essential part. So keep on trucking girl...

    1. Mumzy, what a lovely comment - thank you for the kind and encouraging words. It's been a crazy, but of course exciting and life-affirming time (and yes, we're both in our 40s so not spring chickens!) - I do consider myself so lucky ... what a ride we're on! When I moved to Toronto seven years ago, it was another huge change and a hard one - but I came to love it quickly, and I do so miss it. I hear TO and the region has had a brutal heat wave - hope you're surviving it, or perhaps you're basking at a cottage on a cool lake somewhere. Thank you for leaving a comment and for being a follower! :)

  12. I love your aquatic outfit. Like you I enjoy wearing a short denim jacket with all kinds of clothes. You have my vote for taking up photography, exploring all the nooks and crannies of Annecy. What a beautiful place.

Thanks for commenting - you make my day! With bebe coming at the end of May, I'm sorry to say I won't be responding to each and every comment as I normally do - please know I will be posting when I can and reading all comments, and that I so value your readership. :)

Unfortunately due to excessive spam and almost going crazy moderating 50 comments an hour, I've had to turn on the dreaded word verification. Sorry guys.
