Happy New Year a la retro Michael Lax fondue pot
It may be almost 10 degrees C out but who cares? It's New Year's Eve and tonight my fam and I are having a retro-esque dinner by celebrating with a winter-like cheese and a meat fondue. I'm supplying one fondue pot, a truly retro enamel fondue set given to me by an old school chum. It was in turn given to her my her folks, who received the set for a wedding pressie!
The bottom says Michael Lax Design, Holland and the make is Copco cookware. Michal Lax was an industrial designer who was big in the 1960s, who died over a decade ago in 1999. Born in New York but trained in Finland, he was known for bringing a Scandinavian sensibility to American-made products and was apparently also responsible for introducing enamel to cast iron. Looks like I may have a collectible piece here - btw, it looks like it's never been used!
Happy New Year!! kxo

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES 8-)....
ReplyDeletean old family tradition growing up... we ALWAYS did a cheese fondue on New Year's Day - the one and only time during the year. Each of us kids had our on 'special' colored fork... oh the memories - LOVED IT!!! I may have to dig that pot out tonight.
What color fork will YOU chose?
Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny that you posted about having a fondue today. Hubby and I rang in the New year with a meat fondue last night accompanied with different cheeses, red wine, shrimp tray, and a assortment of bread and sauces. It is so easy to make and enjoy.
Have a great day with your family and friends.
Funny, the Slaters dag up their very own (and rather conventional) fondue set and had a pretty yummy chocolate fondue last night! Our younger kid is finally old enough to dip by himself :) Quite the milestone for this Mom of 4. The colored forks were carefully negotiated and assigned... It was so much fun I think this might be a new tradition for us! Cheers! P.S.: Your fondue pot is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYummy fondue! Happy 2011!
ReplyDeletesvelteSTUFF: Happy New Year! What an amazing story, I love that the fondue has such great memories for you! We didn't do it often enough for me to have a special coloured fork (the other night it was green, a hue I've really been attracted to this past year), but the fondue was rare enough to be a special wintertime tradition in our home. Hope you decided to do one for the New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year the Witch! That's so cool that you did fondue too! My fam and I did meat, and cheese. So yummy and as you say, so easy! Think I'll do another one with the gals in the New Year.
ReplyDeleteVeronica, it appears that a lot of peeps did a fondue that night, isn't that wild? Glad you kids could appreciate it - I don't have any but my sis has young ones and we decided to wait until they were away from the table to do ours, what with that hot oil and all. When they get older they will love it, though. Happy New Year to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteEyeliah, Happy New Year to you, and all the best for 2011!!
