Anyway, back to regular Grunge Queen programming.
When we were home visiting my fam last weekend, I snapped a pic of this centrepiece that has slowly been growing over the years at my sis's place.
The do-it-yourselfer Grunge Queen in me loves the simplicity of this: all ya gotta do is drink lotsa wine and then pop the corks in the glass bowl! Then you can take a dive in, pull out a cork, and reminisce over that particular bottle of wine and what was happening in your life when you were drinking it!
Cheers to inventive decor ideas like this!
Great idea. We use to do this with match book covers even thought we didn't smoke. It's nice to go back and look at them. Lots of restaurant have come and gone. Plus I realized we ate out a lot back then. Those were the days!
ReplyDeleteHey, I love your blog. My pal, VSp the personal shopper put me on to you and I'm so glad. I'm a serious thrift shopper, too, and show my wares at lagemoyen.blogspot.com. Of course, I'm dressing a MUCH older subject (moi) and therefore can't go quite as funky as you. But I love your look and envy your finds. Come have a visit at my blog and I'll be sure to keep tabs on you.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I'm thrilled to see you are in Toronto as well!
ReplyDeleteWe keep our wine corks as well but we have them in a glass vase. We write on the corks when there are special occations or to remember friends visiting...along with the date. It's fun to look through them.
Of course it's getting tougher to collect corks with the screw tops becoming more popular and box wine (which being frugal...we purchase often).

The Witch: you reminded me, I keep matches picked up in the late 1980s and early 1990s in a small rosebowl! Aah yes, the memories, the restaurants that have gone, and the changing social calendar!! Shall haul out my match book collection and show it one day on this here little blog. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteL'age moyen, I'm thrilled you've visited and that Veronica has turned you on to the blog. I will be adding you both to my blogroll! I've been to your blog and love your classic outfits and can't wait to read about the handbags you mention!
ReplyDelete2 Hounds Design, love to connect with other Toronto bloggers - thanks for connecting! And I love your idea of scribbling the dates and friends' names on bottle corks - that way you remember the wine and the company! It's extra nice and thrifty that you save them too, given, as you say, the shortage of real cork these days ... and hey I should try the box of wine, the frugal wino in me should have thought of that earlier! Any good names you suggest? I like chardonnay!!
