I have a dear little kitty who's starting to pee outside the box.She still goes into the litter box, but her wee butt hangs over the edge, so a lot of pee ends up on the floor.
I've been using newspapers and buying expensive dog trainer pads to put under the box and soak up the urine, but the other day as I was cleaning out masses of papers, I hit upon an idea: instead of shredding my old resumes and bills, why not use 'em to soak up the pee?
It's not the most effective method as the papers don't absorb as well as, say, newsprint. But at least I found something to do with my old resumes that would otherwise be shredded! But the downside is I don't think I can recycle pee-soaked paper.
And as you can see, Dinky is attracted to the pile of papers that she will one day pee over!
No offense taken Grunge Queen! A busy blogging girl can be distracted! It's been known to happen!
ReplyDeleteDinky is one cute kitty!
I have heard when you have this problem try getting a brand new litter box. Or something deeper like a tub of some kind.
ReplyDeleteThanks for understanding Vonlipi, and yes the Dinkster sure is one sweet kitty, poor pee-prone thing!
ReplyDeleteMelanie, great idea! I tried a covered litter box with a door of sorts, but the poor wee thing would just hang her butt out the door!!
ReplyDeleteAw well what ever works. I have a covered box with no door and my big cat likes to put his head out the door so the pee stays in the box. Good Luck and Wee thing is a cutie!!
ReplyDeleteLinda your cat sounds more logical than mine, poor wee thing. She is at the vet's today so hopefully we can sort it out....
ReplyDeleteOh I hope Kitty is all right?
ReplyDeleteShe is a very cute kitty!
If you every find the bottom of a rabbit cage which is plastic also, the cat will have more room but it will take up more floor space.
Thanks, she's a total sweetie. She had Diabetes so I need to take her in for regular blood sugar testing. Now she's peeing outside the box, which they say isn't related -- just old age, alas.... I am going to look into a bigger unit, I think you are right about that.
ReplyDeleteHi, just found your blog and read about your cat. I have a cat who would do exactly the same thing. We bought a large clear plastic storage bin (no lid) about 18 gal size, the sides are about 9 -10 inches deep and cut a U shaped portal out from the top edge to step into. The sides are taller than the cat's back so there is no hanging over, and there is no top so the cat doesn't feel penned in. ( a problem our cat had with the covered pans.)
