Fall preview: preppy thrift

This is my new fall look, semi-preppy and inspired by a recent trip to Second Nature Boutique, which this weekend wrapped up its mega summer sale where everything was $10.

This entire look was thrifted, and much was purchased at that sale.

The Parasuco cropped jean jacket: $10. The big Anne Klein embroidered scarf: $10. The red INC stretch top: $10. All in perfect condition.

The Guess jeans I found at Value Village a few years back for under $20.

Even the worn leather belt with the amazing silver-tone belt was thrifted for a couple bucks at my fave local thrift shop, Stretch Thrift.

The darling heart necklace is new, found at my fave costume jewellery boutique in Toronto's Junction area, Lavishy.

I am really digging the prep look this season, which is easy to do thrift: look for stripes, denim, oversize navy blazers a la 1980s with big gold buttons, skinny jeans and a simple cardi.

  1. Hey!

I'm sorry this post isn't related to the actual post, I am just curious if you have ever been to the shop Vintage 69 in between Dufferin & Lansdowne on Bloor. Do they have mens clothes? Do they have knicks knacks & things?

    THANKS.

  2. Hi Sir-Thrift-A-Lot,I haven't been to 69 Vintage Buy the Pound since it moved from 1234 Bloor St. W to 1207 Bloor St. West. Think the concept has changed slightly but you can still get vintage duds by the pound. The old store had a small men's section, but you may want to call the new store and see. No knick knacks that I can recall, but there's a Salvation Army right outside the Lansdowne station that is quite good for bric-a-brac and clothes (and prices rock), plus there's a HUGE Value Village further west a few blocks. There are also a few vintage clothing and furniture shops in the strip - I would recommend you make a Saturday afternoon of it! It's one of my fave places to go to thrift as the shops aren't as expensive as some of the downtown thrift and vintage stores. Let me know if you go!

  3. I'm too embarrassed to go into Vintage 69 by myself; but I'll call, then I won't feel so silly (shy boy here). Yup, that was the first VV I ever went to in the city, have gotten some neat stuff there, but there are a lot of annoying people in that shop. I'm not a fan of that Salvation Army, I know you are, you said you score lots of jewelry there. There's that one neat little shop right near Pizza Pizza (doesn't have a sign). She's currently on vacation, she says, but she'll be back tomorrow! She had a beautiful set of drawers in the window a few months ago, but we don't have room in our teeny condo, so we missed out.

    Thanks for the reply.

  4. Sir Thrift A Lot, is that the Captain Treasure place you're speaking of?

  5. That's the antique shop, right? Where the guy has the stuff outside? I went by the place today & it's in between Pizza Pizza & Vintage 69. I had never noticed what the sign above the store was, since it didn't match the store, but it seems that it used to be a Pho place (I love Pho, btw).

To my surprise, the place does have a name afterall: Ping Pong. The name is on the window.

Have you ever stepped in Ping Pong?

  6. Sir Thrift-A-Lot, no, I'm not sure which place you mean - where is it?
