This had got to be one of the grossest things I've seen in a thrift shop window - it's just icky on so many levels. The fox about to pounce upon and kill the birdie; the REAL fox and the REAL birdie; the $50 price tag; the dust mites that surely must be coursing through every ounce of organic material on the thing; a beautiful piece of driftwood made hostage to this gruesome little death tableau - oh, I could go on.
I was all the more horrified to see a "SOLD" sign on it the day after I snapped this shot.
Almost as bad as the fox hat with fox head still on it that I saw in the same window a few months earlier (hey I'm not judging the thrift shop: they take what they receive, and they clearly have no problem selling items such as this!).
Brr. Doesn't the doll in the blue dress behind the fox, watching, make it all the more creepy?
Simultaneously hilarious and horrifying!
ReplyDeleteThat whole window display is depressing.
ReplyDeleteFoxes are so beautiful and we see them daily hunting around the property.
Can't and wouldn't ever want one taxidermy.
a cat of impossible colour - I hear you. It was one of those moments when I didn't know if I should laugh or cry -- guess that explains my sarcasm in this post!
ReplyDeleteThe Witch, I sure never would either; it's so creepy. There is a taxidermy place near me and I've always wondered about it in a half-horrified half-interested sort of way.
ReplyDeletewhich store is this? And where is it? I live in Toronto!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a great store in spite of this window. I get most of my wardrobe there, but you need to pop in often to get the good stuff. It's called Stretch Thrift and it's on Pape Ave. near Cosburne just north of Greektown - you can walk from Pape Station or take a bus north from there and get off at Floyd Ave and it's right near the Coffee Lime. Let me know if you go - prices are good.
